Gerard Jackson joined the Department of Energy (DOE) in October of 2022. He is assigned to Department of Energy’s Spent Fuel and High Level Waste Disposition, Office of Storage and Transportation. He is the federal lead for numerous DOE SNF projects in the office. This includes DOE’s Full Scale Package Performance Demonstration Program, Integrated Security and Safety Monitoring System (ISSMS), and the Armed Courier Program. These programs are part of a muti-lab DOE initiative to construct one or more consolidated interim storage facilities for SNF.
Prior to joining DOE, Mr. Jackson worked at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for 14 years He was assigned to the Division of Physical and Cyber Security Policy in the office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response. His duties included the planning, coordination, and management of the development and implementation of policies and programs for transportation security and physical protection of fissile material during all phases of transportation.
Mr. Jackson is a senior member of Institute of Nuclear Material Management and is the INMM Northeast Chapter Treasurer.
Prior to joining the NRC, Mr. Jackson served 34 years in US Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal. He retired in March of 2014 with the rank of Commander.
