Lieutenant Steve Twitty has been a dedicated member of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office since 2002, contributing over 23 years of service.
Career Overview:
With over 23 years of dedication to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Steve Twitty brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the forefront of maritime law enforcement. Starting his career in 2002 as a jailer, he graduated from the Basic Academy (Class B1-2003), serving with distinction in the Patrol Bureau for over a decade until prompting to Sergeant. During this time, he was also a call-out diver for the Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Dive Team.
As a seasoned call-out diver and boat operator, Lieutenant Twitty’s passion for underwater operations led him to the Maritime Tactical Operations Section in 2018, where he supervised both the Marine Unit and the Dive Team. His promotion to Lieutenant in 2023 marked a new chapter of leadership, with a return to the Marine Unit in 2025 to continue driving innovation.
As a PADI dive instructor, commercial diver and licensed Coast Guard Captain, his 35 years of diving experience has been instrumental in revolutionizing the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team by introducing cutting-edge technologies, standardizing equipment and training protocols, and elevating safety measures, significantly enhancing the unit’s safety and effectiveness.
