Michael Ziesemer joined SSA Marine (then Ceres Terminals Inc.) in 2022 as the General Manager, Galveston Cruise Terminal, LLC with over 15 years of experience as a proven leader in security management, cruise terminal management, port operations, and emergency preparedness. He oversees the efficient and effective operations of the Galveston Cruise Terminal 10, a joint venture SSA Marine and Royal Caribbean Group. Galveston Cruise Terminal 10 is the largest cruise terminal in Texas and will accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world.
He is responsible for strategic development and execution of cruise terminal operational planning and key performance indicators. He works closely with executive leadership to develop and execute a sound safety and security strategy; drive culture change and provide leadership accountability. Responsible for developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships through consistent communication and collaboration. He is also the designated Facility Security Officer.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Ziesemer was with the Port of Houston Authority for over 10 years serving as a Security Manager and designated Facility Security Officer. During this time, he was responsible for ensuring the physical security of the Port and its assets, as well as compliance with all maritime security regulatory requirements. He was the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program manager, threat liaison officer, and primary liaison with local, state, and federal agencies on all matters pertaining to maritime security. During his tenure at the Port of Houston Authority, he also spearheaded the Bayport Cruise Terminal startup and oversaw its cruise operations for duration of the cruise line agreements. Preceding the Port of Houston Authority, Mr. Ziesemer was with the Port of Galveston for over 5 years serving in various roles of progressing responsibility.
In 2022, Mr. Ziesemer earned board certification in security management through ASIS as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP®). He is a graduate of the Fall 2019 Business/Civic Leadership Forum through the Center for Houston’s Future. In 2015, he earned designation as a Certified Port Executive™, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge and experience in port operations and management. Earned a Certificate in Infrastructure Protection through TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service), and an International Diploma for Harbor Masters through IBC Global Academy.
Mr. Ziesemer currently serves on the Board for The Propeller Club, Port of Galveston. Was a member of the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee Working Group for the 2024 update to Coast Guard guidance on the Implementation of MTSA Regulations, was selected as Deputy Sector Chief of InfraGard’s Maritime Cross-Sector Council in Houston. He is an active member of the Coast Guard’s Area Maritime Security Committee and ASIS International. He is the current Co-Chair of the Security Sub-Committee under the Area Maritime Security Committee. In 2017, Mr. Ziesemer was elected as the founding Chair of the FSO/CSO/VSO Sub-Committee and held that posting for three consecutive years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served seven months of combat duty in Iraq, earning a Certificate of Commendation while assigned to MSSG-24 Explosive Ordinance Disposal Detachment Security Element.
