Ken Washington embarked on his journey with Port Tampa Bay in October 1996 and swiftly ascended to his current role as Chief Information Officer in 1998. As the CIO, Mr. Washington assumes a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction of the organization’s information technology endeavors, while also orchestrating the development, implementation, and appraisal of all technological frameworks and infrastructure vital to Port Tampa Bay’s operations.
With a distinguished career spanning four decades, Mr. Washington boasts a wealth of experience in the realm of information technology, cultivated through a diverse array of experiences within both corporate and governmental spheres. His extensive background encompasses expertise in enterprise computing, telecommunications, large-scale implementations, and Cybersecurity.
Mr. Washington’s academic journey began at Hillsborough Community College, Harold Washington College, and culminated at the University of South Florida. He fortified his professional stature by earning certifications as a Certified Government Chief Information Officer, a Master Certified Novell Engineer, a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and a Microsoft Certified Professional.
Prior to joining the Port Authority, Mr. Washington showcased his talents in various roles, including Manager of MIS at the Florida Aquarium, Research Analyst at GTE, Senior Technician at IBM, and service in the U.S. Army with a specialization in mobilization, logistics, and Military Intelligence.
