Captain Marcus E. Woodring

Captain Woodring retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as Captain of the Port for Houston-Galveston in 2011, and assumed his current position as Chief of Port Security and Emergency Operations with the Port of Houston Authroity. He is responsible for the security and emergency response at eight terminals along the Houston Ship Channel, supervising 124 people. Port Houston is the 2018 recipient of the USCG Admiral Bennis Award for Excellence in Maritime Security.

Captain Woodring is a 1983 graduate of Brown University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Geologic Sciences, and a 1995 graduate of Cornell University earning a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He currently serves the maritime community as Vice Chairman of the Houston Ship Channel Security District, representing maritime ports on the Texas Private Sector Advisory Council, and as Vice Chairman of the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC).
